One out of every four. That is how many students in Washington will go through a season of depression in the next 12 months. Will you be ready when your teen or their friends go through it?

Unite 4 Life is addressing this critical need by offering “Helping Hurting Students,” a seminar designed to create an atmosphere in our homes and communities where young people are getting the help they need as they deal with issues of adolescence.

“Helping Hurting Students” will equip teens, parents, family members, and other concerned community members to understand youth depression and to know how to help.

Topics covered will include:

  • Why Teens Hurt
  • How Depression Affects Young People
  • Warning Signs
  • Risk Factors including Alcohol/Other Drugs, Bullying, and Family Changes
  • Myths vs. Facts about Youth Depression and Suicide
  • Suicide Prevention
  • Communication Skills
  • Help-Seeking Behavior
  • Developing Protective Factors in Your Home and Community

This seminar is ideal for teens to attend with their parents or guardians as it will foster open communication within the family. It is also extremely beneficial for students and concerned adults to attend.

Please note: The material presented in this seminar is appropriate for students in 6th grade and up. Students younger than 6th grade should not attend.

"Helping Hurting Students" is presented by Aaron Chidester, Executive Director of Unite 4 Life. Aaron has worked with teens full time for the last nine years as a mentor, public speaker, youth pastor, program director, football coach, and more. He turned his life around from depression and drug addiction at the age of 21 and has been giving back to young people ever since. He received his training and certification through Berean University, Master's Commission USA, Grace International, American Association of Suicidology, and Suicide Prevention Resource Center. Aaron lives in Vancouver, WA with his wife and two young children.
